How's your day, BoS? (brother of SIFORS). It's nice to meet everyone. There's a saying that if you don't know, then you don't love Hawaii.
Greetings, my name is Ayu Siti Khofifah, also known as Ayu, and I am a 2018 Information Systems Study Program student. On this occasion, I want to share what problems can hinder the completion of the thesis, especially those experienced by us final students. Hopefully it can be a lesson for you in the future, especially when compiling a thesis.
For female students, you must be familiar with the terms "final project" and "thesis." A diploma or bachelor's degree requires students to complete a thesis. After studying for so many years, this is the final challenge that you must pass to complete your studies. In accordance with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely: Education, Research and Development, and Community Service. This is the reason why all tertiary institutions require their students to write a TA or thesis. The existence of research produced by students will contribute to new knowledge in the academic field, as will the implementation of the lectures that have been obtained.
However, to complete the thesis, there are definitely challenges and obstacles that will be overcome. Based on my observations, myself and my colleagues who are working on a thesis experience several factors that cause students to find it difficult and take a long time to complete their thesis. In the following, there are several factors that become obstacles to thesis for final semester students; pay attention, guys.
- Work and Study Problems
Not a few students are not only in college, but there are also some of them who are working at the same time. There are various reasons students work. There are those who work in order to reduce the financial burden on their families as well as tuition fees. There is also work to add to the experience. There are lots of benefits when we work, but what often happens is that students who are doing their thesis are less focused on their thesis. There are students who take too long of a leave or even leave their studies because they are too busy or even too tired to work. This is one of the factors that makes students repeat courses and hinders them when they start writing their thesis. In addition, problems in the work environment can also interfere with students who are working on their thesis. - Problems with family
Problems that can hinder thesis do not always come from outside the home. When there is conflict in the family, it can also affect the focus when working on the thesis, causing the mind to be divided and causing unproductive stress. That is, the stress experienced is caused by thoughts outside of the problem of working on the thesis. - Active organization during the old semester
Organizing is also a place that can be used to gain knowledge other than what students get from lectures. Organizations offer a wide variety of fields that can provide knowledge beyond the material taught in lecture classes. By participating in organizations, you can improve soft skills such as leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and sharing various knowledge and experiences with other students. However, there are some final-year students who are more concerned with and only focus on the organization they are involved in, forgetting that they also have an obligation to complete their thesis. - Problems with the Supervisor
Supervisors play an important role in helping students finish their theses. When you meet a supervisor who is not liked because of the way you explain it or anything else, it can trigger feelings of trauma for students. not to mention when getting lecturers who are difficult to find, for example, when studying out of town or even abroad. As a result, students are less likely to consult with the lecturer. - Lack of self-responsibility
A lack of responsibility is the most common cause of student delays in working on their thesis. As we know, the thesis is no longer the responsibility of the group but rather a personal responsibility. The lack of motivation and interest in the thesis hindered its completion. The process of working on a thesis is not scheduled by the campus, but students are given the freedom to complete it independently. Often, final semester students do not know when to start and where to start, so that their thesis does not progress. In addition, the environment in which I work on the thesis—both the place and my friends—also play a role in the process of completing the thesis.
Apart from these problems, there are some tips so you can complete your thesis.
- Find a topic that interests you.
Look for the topic of discussion of the thesis that is of interest before starting to determine the title. Because if we like the field or it interests us, we can make it easier when the process of writing a thesis does not feel too heavy and stressful. Because doing uninteresting and unclear research can have an effect on psychology, resulting in laziness in doing it,Look for interesting topics according to the supervisor we want. Before submitting a thesis title, you should first consult with the lecturer you hope to be your supervisor. Because it may help your title get accepted faster if it is relevant to your major. - Determine the object of research.
Determining the object of this research is important in the process of completing your thesis. First, try to find research objects that are easy to access; besides that, look for research objects with sources that can easily provide the required data. In addition, good communication really needs to be maintained until the research ends. The process of searching for data takes several days to several months, depending on the ease of access to data from sources. The easier it is to obtain data from sources, the faster the thesis can be completed. - Set a target for when you want to graduate.
After the thesis title has been received by the supervisor, So immediately make a target that contains a list of what you will do from preparing the proposal to completion. Look for similar thesis guidelines, then set a goal of writing a thesis, even if it's just one sentence.Don't overthink about problems that exist at the research site or other problems that haven't happened yet. The key to finishing your thesis is to concentrate on what you're doing.Everyone's study time will be different, but you can try to spend at least 30 minutes a day writing your thesis (don't forget to keep your cellphone out of your reach, guys, so you can focus). Never be too lazy to read your thesis; if you read it several times, you will understand and recognize the flaws in your research and can then begin to improve your writing. - Separate personal affairs from education.
Final students must be able to divide their time to work on their thesis and also do other activities. The solution for students who are still participating in organizations is to create a structured schedule. It is better for students to be active in organizations from semester 1 through semester 6. Then, for semesters 7 and 8, it is better to start working on your thesis in installments. - Frequent guidance and confiding in the supervisor
One of the duties of the lecturer is to ensure that students master the material and guide them in the process of working on their thesis. One important factor that can determine whether students graduate on time or late is the supervisor. There are many benefits and knowledge that students get from completing their theses. More often, discuss this with your supervisor. When you are confused and dizzy when writing your thesis, invite your supervisor to be dizzy together. According to my experience, the supervisor's encouragement and support really helped me, who was in a desperate situation, to finish the thesis.
For those of you who are currently or will be compiling a thesis, cheers, guys; you can definitely do it. Don't worry, be happy; even though it's late, you have to keep your spirits up. Don't be insecure or overthinking. Just focus on what you started; that's what you have to finish, okay?
That's all. Thank you.
