Independent Study/Project Activities are a form of learning that accommodates student activities who have a passion for realizing great works that are contested at national and international levels or works of innovative ideas. Independent studies/projects complement the curriculum already taken by students. The university or faculty makes independent studies to complete topics that are not included in the lecture schedule, but are still available in the syllabus of the study program or faculty. Independent project activities can be carried out in the form of cross-disciplinary group work. The equivalence of independent study activities into courses is calculated based on the contribution and role of students as evidenced in activities under the coordination of the supervisor.

Independent Study/Project Activities are problem solving with innovative science and technology that are comprehensive, meaningful, complete, and sustainable (sustainable) aimed at helping overcome problems faced by productive economic communities (problems of production, management, marketing), and problems faced by the general public (problems health, poverty, education, gender equality and social inclusion, natural disasters, environment, population, security, social politics, and other social problems).

The target partners of independent study/project activities can be community business groups (such as Bumdes or other village business units), cooperatives and productive economic business groups, and other general community groups. The field of activity carried out is a priority and/or superior that has been determined by the partner. The science and technology that will be applied are science and technology products that have been tested and are in accordance with the needs of the community, for that it can also be done in a multidisciplinary collaboration. This activity is expected to produce outputs in the form of: (1) innovative products in the form of appropriate technology (TTG), prototypes, models, prototypes, and the like, (2) one scientific article published through journals or proceedings with ISBN at national seminars, (3 ) one article in print/electronic mass media, (4) intellectual property rights, and (5) activity video.
