Hi Brother of SIFORS (BoS), greetings Harmoni!
How are you? May you always be healthy and happy.
In this article, I try to convey something that I think is important to be considered for the BoS, which is now at the stage of publishing articles on the results of thesis research. Publication of thesis research articles is a mandatory requirement for the Brother of SIFORS (BoS). To be able to register for graduation, the BoS must at least submit articles to journals, both national and international. For now (this article was written while listening to the SIFORS Sharing Session #14a), the study program has determined the publication of a minimum of research articles in the SINTA 4 Accredited Journal which is valid for the 2018 batch (SIFORS'18). The study program will certainly evaluate in the future with the principle of continuous improvement.
In this paper, I try to convey three considerations for the success of publishing articles on thesis research results in target journals 'with harmony'. These considerations are:
- Realize Article Eligibility
The level of our thesis research in the IS study program is the minimum implementation of theory in certain case studies/situations. This means that thesis research is more focused on how BoS will prove that BoS has understood the theory and has been able to implement it in certain situations. Realizing this, the BoS must consider where the thesis research articles will be published, whether to be published in national journals, accredited national journals (SINTA accredited), international journals or international journals with a certain indexer. For consideration of this feasibility, I suggest that the BoS consult with the main supervisor and thesis assistant supervisor. - Pay attention to the schedule for publication of articles in the target journal
Please note that each journal has its own provisions regarding publication in any month or at any time, the number of publications per year (known as number/issue), how many articles are in each issue and others. One way is to look at the author guidelines, about or check the archive of articles that have been published in the journal. It should also be noted that the series of activities in the publication of journal articles at least starts from compiling manuscripts, registering in journals, submitting manuscripts, revising manuscripts based on the results of revisions by reviewers (can be multiple times), payment (if paid), and other administration according to the provisions of the journal manager. . As a tip, how long does it take from submitting to publishing, BoS can be checked on articles that have been published in the target journal, usually there are those that include important dates such as when the article was received and when it was published. That range suggests the BoS should at least provide the time around that. Remember all that must be consulted with the thesis supervisor, yes. Knowing the series, one thing that must be adhered to is the commitment of the BoS and the thesis supervisor, because publishing articles requires a lot of time and effort. By maintaining commitment and discipline, BoS will not frustrate the thesis supervisor because he is tired of reminding him to go through that stage, or on the contrary tired of pursuing a supervisor with high level knowledge who often disappears when asked for consultation time (just kidding). Cheers, boss, nothing valuable and memorable is easily obtained, go through the process, pray a lot and keep trying.
Oh yes, this consideration does not mean avoiding the target of journals with good reputation or higher. I only remind you of the commitment to complete a series of theses, namely to the publication of thesis articles, one of which is in scientific journals. It would be a shame if the thesis research that the BoS did at the expense of months, costs (data collection fees, credit fees, quotas, etc.), energy and relationships (cut off by a girlfriend, for example) was not published. - Follow the Author Guidelines
After considering the feasibility and schedule of journal publications, another important thing is the BoS compliance with the rules set by the journal manager. Journal administrators usually provide Author Guidelines. The Author Guidelines contain information, especially for readers, regarding guidelines that MUST be followed by authors. In this section, the journal manager provides information on the stages that will be carried out starting from the submit, review stage until the author's article can be published in the journal. Journal managers usually provide article templates so that the format of articles published in the journal is uniform and in accordance with the provisions of the journal manager. The important points here for the BoS are compliance with scope and focus, compliance with the provisions of reference writing, compliance with the initial submit process, submitting revisions and other administration.
The focus and scope of the journal provides information to readers and writers of journal articles related to the topic space of articles managed by the journal manager. For article readers/journal visitors, focus and scope are used as information on articles on any topic published in the journal. Meanwhile, for article writers, focus and scope can be used as guidelines and limits on whether or not the article can be accepted for publication in a journal. The BoS can check the focus and scope for himself to become the target journal, yes, if you are confused, remember to consult with the thesis supervisor.
Adhering to the terms of reference writing means following what is suggested by the journal manager. Usually the manager suggests using certain tools such as Mendeley, Zotero, etc. which actually aims to help BoS. SIFORS Sharing has discussed this, try checking the youtube study program, BoS.
Compliance with submitting manuscripts, revisions, etc., is related to the second consideration, yes, about 'commitment and discipline', you can reread it if you still don't understand it.
When it comes to time, compliance considerations are certainly very time and effort saving. Various stories about the rejection of manuscripts by journal managers are due to not complying with the Author Guidelines that have been given. So once again I say, obey what has been set, don't waste time and make the journal manager angry because the BoS is 'cheating'.
Meanwhile, what I can share first is that it is too long and I'm afraid it will be boring and I don't even want to read it, but I hope that it can be useful. After reading this article, of course, some of you have different opinions. Weaknesses are also of course also found in this paper. Constructive criticism and suggestions are most welcome, Greetings Harmoni! SIFORSโฆExcellentโฆExcellentโฆExcellentโฆ
