Hello SIFORS friends, my name is Nyoman Triarta, and I am a 2019 Undiksha Information Systems student. In this article, I would like to share a few tips that I think are important and that, of course, students often experience while studying. In accordance with the title of this article, I want to share tips for increasing focus while studying and preventing burnout while studying. Before going into the main topic, I want to disclaim that the tips that I will convey are based on my personal experience, which I previously learned from watching productivity content on YouTube and applied while studying at Undiksha.
We have an obligation as students to continue studying and paying attention in class. But surely we will encounter a condition where we cannot focus or find it difficult to focus while studying due to various factors, starting from a busy environment, ceramic grinding neighbors, possessive girlfriends asking to always be informed, and so on. And, of course, when we go to college, we never feel bored or lazy to study because we previously pushed ourselves too hard by studying for a long time and monotonously.I am interested in raising this topic with my SIFORS friends so they can be more productive. Here are some tips that can help improve focus and prevent burnout while studying that I apply:
Change the learning atmosphere by changing the place of study.
Changing the place of study can provide a fresher atmosphere and be more motivating to study. When we are constantly studying in the same place, for example, in a room, maybe we will start to feel bored and less inspired.
We will feel a different atmosphere and can stimulate our brains to generate new ideas if we change our study location. In addition, changing the place of study can also help overcome the feeling of boredom that we experience when studying.
For example, if we usually study at home, we can try studying in a park, library, or cafe. Changing the place of study can also help us to break up our routines so that we can study more productively. However, it is critical that we choose a study location that is comfortable for us; try to find a study location that is not too crowded or noisy so that we can concentrate.
Give yourself pause to rest.
Giving pauses or breaks while studying is very important to keep our focus. When we keep studying without taking a break, we may feel tired, stressed, and less focused. This can affect the quality of our learning and make it difficult for us to remember the information we just learned.
Taking breaks can also help us avoid burnout and help us refocus and be productive when we return to studying. When giving ourselves breaks, it's important to set a schedule that works for our needs. One technique that can be used is Pomodoro, which is a time management technique that is useful for increasing productivity. This technique uses a timer to divide work or study time into regular, short periods of focus and pause.
The focus period in the pomodoro technique is 25 minutes; after this focus period, we can do a short 5-minute pause. After a brief pause, we loop back into the focus period. To make it easier to use this technique, SIFORS friends can use the pomodoro timer website or a mobile application, which is available for free on the Play Store and App Store.
Always carry water, snacks, and candy.
We frequently experience drowsiness or fatigue when studying for an extended period of time. This can reduce our focus when studying. When I'm in this situation, I usually take a short break to drink water and eat snacks or candy.Taking short breaks to drink water and eat snacks or candy can help increase energy, improve focus when studying again, and keep us from getting dehydrated. Therefore, I highly recommend carrying water, healthy snacks, and sweets in the appropriate amount.
Give yourself a reward for a walk or healing.
A short vacation is essential for increasing focus on learning and preventing burnout. When we experience burnout, focus and concentration for studying decrease, motivation to study decreases, and productivity decreases. Therefore, it is very important to take time to rest and relax for a while. We can reduce stress, increase energy and motivation, and become excited about studying again by taking time off for vacation.
Therefore, it is important not only to focus on studying but also to give ourselves time to relax and enjoy fun activities such as traveling to tourist attractions or new places. In this way, we can improve focus and concentration while studying and prevent burnout.
Stay fit by exercising.
Sometimes, when we choose to study for a long time, such as when doing college assignments, we forget to exercise. This can cause us to easily experience fatigue and a lack of energy, thereby reducing our focus on learning. If SIFORS friends don't have time to do sports, during the study breaks, SIFORS friends can stretch or do light sports such as walking around the house and doing yoga.
Don't forget to get enough sleep and don't stay up too often.
As a SIFORS student who is majoring in informatics engineering, of course my SIFORS friends are familiar with staying up late to make assignments. However, this should be reduced, because if you often stay up late, it will certainly have a bad impact on your health in the future and can affect the quality of your studies, making you feel sleepy the next day and making it difficult to focus when studying.
To avoid staying up late, I usually do my assignments early in the morning or late in the afternoon, so that at night we can go to bed early, and when there are lectures the next day or we want to study, we stay fit and can focus more.
Then, if SIFORS friends have trouble sleeping at night, causing them to stay up late frequently, they can try not to play with their cellphones before bedtime.
Those are some tips that I can share regarding how to increase focus when studying and prevent myself from experiencing burnout, which I usually do. I thank you for reading this article, and I hope that some of the tips that I convey can help SIFORS friends be more productive.
Just because it's hard doesn't mean it's impossible. You can do it.
